The 1991 Silver Jubilee

In 1991, a partnership was formed between the school and what was the inaugural CHESS Comittee - to form the 1991 Silver Jubilee Committee.

Their mission was threefold - to access as many former students as possible and create a database which was then used to contact former students as they could reach.

Then they organised a big ball at the Hyatt to celebrate the Silver Jubilee and there was a massive response.

The 'recovery' day saw a big turnout at the school for a major open day. Whole classes were dedicated to individual decades, adorned with class photos and memorabilia.

Robert Ewins launched his book on the history of the the school - I purchased my copy of Camberwell High School 1941-1991 - A Jubilee Retrospective. It has been well thumbed!

Here is a photo of the original committee which was spearheaded by Miss Anne Rusden, a former teacher at CHS who returned to become Principal, and also well supported by fellow school staff and teachers.

Here is a ticket and the original spirit list for the Silver Jubilee Ball.

I discovered an album at the school recently that has about a hundred or so photos taken at the Open Day. Click here
