Hazel
Edwards
Melbourne-based author of over 146 published works for adults and children including the classic 'There's a Hippopotamus on our Roof Eating Cake', Hazel Edwards uses 'participant-observer' research as an excuse for doing unusual things in order to write realistically afterwards. Believing that writers have an obligation to craft their work, she runs 'Non Boring Travel Writing' and 'Writing a Non Boring Family History' workshops related to her books of the same titles. A mentor, Hazel has been involved with gifted students and is a Tournament of Minds problem writer and judge. An international conference speaker, Hazel accepts unusual writer-in-residencies. Antarctica is hard to surpass. Peoples motives interest her. Co-written with psychologist Dr Helen Mc Grath, 'Difficult Personalities' and "Friends'(Choice Books) have been popular reprints. Interview-based 'Healthy Women; Getting the Balance Right' (Choice Books) contains hi-profile women including Antarctic station leader Marilyn Boydell. For Legal Aid, Hazel co-created 'Just in Case You Visit the Children's Court' with illustrator Michael Salmon and is interested in scripting factual therapy material.
