John Maddock - Grad. Dip. Bus, Grad. Dip. Ed, FAICD, FAITD, MASTD CEO of Box Hill Institute of TAFE
John Maddock has enjoyed a very diverse life since leaving CHS in 1969. At CHS, he led the basketball team and was Head Prefect. He has a most impressive CV: John held a variety of management roles at Barton Institute of TAFE for 10 years, then 5 years as Deputy Director at Box Hill Institute before becoming Director at the Gordon for 4 years. He then returned to Box Hill as the CEO in early December 1999. His initial career began with Arthur Anderson, working in their small business management and business consulting areas. Then he spent four years teaching at Glenroy Technical School. Alongside his professional life, John had a prominent career in basketball, playing with the Melbourne Tigers from 1965 to 1980 in State and National championships at both junior and senior level. During that period, he was also selected to represent Australia at the National Titles at the international level and was a regular member of the Australian squad during the 1970s. 1971 - Oceania Olympic Games qualifiers in New Zealand 1974 - World Championships in Puerto Rica 1975 Tour of the USA and China 1976 - Montreal Olympics 1977 - Inaugural New Zealand Games 1977/78 - Tour of the US and Europe 1978 - Oceania Olympic Games qualifiers in New Zealand 1978 - World Championships in the Philippines 1979 - Test matches played throughout Australia John has a strong community involvement in sports administration - holding positions of President and Chairman of Basketball Australia; Australia's delegate to the FIBA, the world governing body for the sport of basketball; Member of FIBA's International Competition Commission; Australia's representative on the FIBA Oceania Basketball Federation Management Committee; Delegate on the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC); Past Board Member of the Melbourne Tigers Basketball Club; awarded Life Membership of the Victorian Basketball Association. John Maddock's professional life is distinguished - he has been involved in many leadership roles and a large number of Statewide Vocational Education and Training (VET) or government initiatives in Victoria and Australia, either through invitation or as Victorian TAFE Association's representative, including most recently, member of the Victorian Curriculum & Assessment Authority (and its predecessor, the Victorian Board of Studies); Deputy Chair Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) and member of its Management Committee, (and he recently resigned from the VTAC TER and Scaling Committee); Member of the Board of Trustees for VTAC; member of the State Government ICT Task Force advising Ministers Brumby and Kosky on future ICT directions in Victoria; member of the previous State Government's Ministerial Advisory Committee on "Seamless Education"; past member of the Ministry of Education's VET in Schools' Advisory Group; Chair, Statewide Management Information System Steering Committee. John's philosophy is a commitment to ensuring that all learners have access to a suite of academically vigorous and high quality programs, aimed at preparing students for effective participation in the global economy - and to participate as highly educated and skilled people within Australia's workforce.
