"Mic Conway looks as though he was born on a cabaret stage.....his ease with a variety of cabaret styles from music hall and vaudeville to new wave testifies to his involvement and his expertise is apparent." Peter Weineger, The Age

Mic was born into a family of vaudeville theatre and opera.

He and his brother Jim, formed the predecessor to The Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band at the annual Talent Quest, held in the old wooden gym at CHS - the Jelly Bean Jug Band was formed just for a laugh, but they annihilated the competition*!

the 1970s, together with his brother Jim, Mic founded the "Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band" and to their surprise it became a cult phenomenom, making a total of seven records, two of which achieved gold status. It was also in the 1970s that Mic joined the legendary Pram Factory Theatre (APG) in Melbourne, creating Soapbox Circus with Matchbox, where he was ringmaster, musician, juggler and acrobat. In 1978, Soapbox became the now world-famous Circus Oz of which Mic was a founding member.

Throughout the 1980s and 90s, Mic toured across Australia, Britain, USA, New Zealand and Asia, delighting audiences of all ages with his unique and entertainment-packed shows. He recorded several more albums and worked across the board in theatre, music, cabaret, TV and film. More recently, Mic launched the Mic Conway's National Junk Band, successfully touring and recording the most unique music and entertainment that "defies categorisation" (SMH).

Film and television productions include: "Coca Cola Kid", "Molly", "Vietnam", "Play School", "Mr Squiggle", "House of Fun", "Vaudeville", "Come in Spinner", "The Wiggles Movie", as regular guest, Magic Mic, on the "Humphrey Bear" TV series, "Long Way To The Top" and doing the music for the new ABC production "Bad Cop" comedy series.

Theatre appearances include: "The Threepenny Opera" for the Sydney Theatre Company and "Blossoms and Wrinkles" for the One Extra Company. Mic was awarded an ARIA for his ABC album "Whoopee", recorded and co-wrote several CDs, radio shows, TV scripts and various children's theatre productions.

He is an original, unusual and versatile performer - a modern, one-man vaudeville show.

*Webmaster - I remember standing in the packed gym, watching the Jelly Bean Jug Band - with Mic on ukelele, washboard and the whisky keg (filled with jelly beans which were thrown at the audience after the performance! Jim played the kazoo and harmonica (and later became Australia's best proponent of that instrument) The whole gym erupted into cheers when they won the event....we all knew they were talented and SO different. Jug band music in 1969 was a new sound to us. When they evolved later into Captain Matchbox, their first album, Wangaratta Wahine was the most popular LP around. It was everywhere. I still treasure my copy.
