Ahhhhhhhh. Uniforms! Swedish bloomers!!!

I can remember the summer holidays of 1968, going to the second floor of a uniform suppliers in Swanston Street, diagonally opposite the City Square, and trying on my new CHS uniform. And then my first day, resplendent in my full summer uniform, hat, gloves and blazer. General Assembly outdoors on the asphalt. A stinking hot day. A few kids falling over in the heat and fainting....landing hard! No sitting in comfy chairs in a big hall, which came years later. <sigh>

1940s

Note the woollen tunics which lasted into the late sixties. Girls wore shirts, ties and blazers. Boys had woollen grey long pants and matching blazers. Stockings were required, until the late sixties when tights finally arrived. Hallelujah!

Looks like girls' sport in 1947 was just the usual school uniform plus sandshoes. But in 1948, they finally had dedicated sports uniforms. (which helps you move freely)

Boys football had them wearing thick woollen jumpers and the usual cricket whites for that sport.

1950s

Looks like the girls were allowed to wear socks with their winter tunics! Plus the woolly school jumpers that I was familiar with in the sixties are there.

The 1952 house captains with their adorned blazer stripes. The boys blazers are still double-breasted grey wool.

The girls are wearing practical short sleeved cotton shirts and netball skirts in 1952.

The 1952 tennis team in their tennis gear, very relevent to that era.

Cricket flannels in 1955.

No change in 1956 (Girls volleyball) but the sports uniforms are getting shorter. (ie. more practical)

1960s

In Bev Hodson's 1965 photo, you can see the full summer uniform, with hats and gloves.

At the 2007 open night, there were displays (in the library) of our 1960s uniforms.

1966 - boys basketball gear.

Sports tunics as I remember them. Light green with our school shirts underneath. And a sash around the waist.
And kept in a matching sports bag like the one I had below.

In the 1966 boys volleyball team seen here with Mr Selleck, it's the advent of t-shirts for sport.

In 1969, we were finally liberated! Skirts!!!
1970s

A sea of CHS winter hats at the MCG (Royal Visit) 1971

The school uniforms are getting shorter by 1972.

1972 - Hair is longer for boys and some were starting to wear beards.

Girls summer school uniforms no longer have belts. Boys don't wear ties either.
1980s & 1990s

School windcheaters, circa 1980s.

Nowadays, the students wear red jumpers.....(1997 rehearsal)

....and wear bright gear for soccer in 1989.
